Hi there. I’m a Pittsburgh-based copy editor and brand writer with a library of travel anecdotes and a fine collection of leather jackets. But if you want the full story:
Writing professionally wasn’t my plan, but life has a sense of humor.
In fact, I worked really hard to avoid a creative profession. At Washington & Jefferson College, I was a Mandarin language and international relations student, which took me all around China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, and loads of other faraway places in the span of a few short years. I presented and published a few research pieces on China’s developing migrant labor market and cut my teeth at a global ad firm in Shanghai. My love of language continued to flourish while tutoring at Lingnan University, where I was lucky enough to call Hong Kong home for a year.
A few short months after putting down roots in Pittsburgh in 2015, I started merch copywriting at ModCloth where I primarily wrote puns about dresses, shoes, homewares, and whatever whimsical product that made its way across my desk. Through the years, that expanded into copy editing, developing marketing assets, SEO optimization, and writing long-form content to support the brand. You might think after years of penning fashion e-comm jokes I’d be out of material, but I’ve still got some in the vault.
By 2019, I joined My Subscription Addiction as the editor and content manager, operating a team of ~20 freelance writers and a handful of extremely gifted in-house creators. I also managed brand relations, wrote reviews for meal kit and wine subscriptions, developed training materials for new writers, and, as a meticulous record keeper, maintained process documents for everything my role touched.
As of mid-2021, you can find me at CivicScience where I’m researching and writing about millennial lifestyle market trends, whipping up survey questions, and working from wherever “home” is — a windmill off the coast of Portugal, a cozy flat in Copenhagen, a friend’s dining table in Sydney, or comfortably atop my hand-me-down couch.
Outside of all things work-related, you can find me going elbows deep into carb-heavy meals, rattling about my next trip overseas, and testing the creative limits of an all-black wardrobe.
